COAT-
&
CAT FRIENDLY
As little stress as possible for your cat Ánd for you!
I work according to the coat- and cat-friendly method. What does this actually mean?
A coat-friendly grooming treatment means that the coat is treated in a way that avoids damage to the cat's fur or skin. I employ special techniques and tools to handle the coat during this process.
In general, the cats that come to my salon have, in one way or another, an 'issue': mostly it's tangled fur, sometimes it's more serious and involves felted fur and mats. Or, often in the case of British Shorthairs, cats with a 'clogged' coat (= fur that holds on to dead hairs stubbornly)."
What i do not do:
Remove awn hair. This is an outdated method in which the cat is stripped of as much fur as possible using fine-toothed combs, coat kings, combs with an elastic woven through the teeth, or similar materials. This process also removes good fur that has not yet reached the end of its natural growth cycle. De-matting disrupts the natural hair growth cycle, exacerbates the problem, and requires more frequent trips to the grooming salon: good for my wallet, but not for yours and certainly not enjoyable for your cat.
Washing and blow-drying; I haven't seen a cat who's okay with that yet. For lightly soiled areas, I can do spot cleaning with a good and especially odourless dry shampoo.
Shaving a cat completely bald because a 'lion cut' is considered 'cute' or because it's thought to be too warm. A cat's fur is remarkable: in both winter and summer, they use their fur to regulate their body temperature. Additionally, a completely shaved cat can easily get sunburned.
Model shaving and/or trimming.
what i do do:
My main priority is to keep GOOD COAT AS INTACT AS POSSIBLE.
Removing mats by combing if possible and if in the best interest of your cat. It's actually much quicker and therefore less stressful for your cat to shave out a mat.
Remove tangles, mats and/or felt by shaving. Please be aware that I don't shave the good coat, which can result in stylish haircuts ☺.
Treating lightly soiled fur with dry shampoo.
Other procedures: trimming nails if necessary, checking eyes, ears, and teeth, possibly administering flea and/or worming tablets (bring your own!).

cat friendly
In addition to working coat-friendly, I also work in a cat-friendly manner. I strive to make your cat feel comfortable during the treatment. This may, for example, involve allowing your cat to explore my salon for a bit before the session, or taking a break if your cat needs it. Of course, there are toys and other items on hand to "bribe" your cat. If it turns out that your cat becomes too stressed, I will stop the treatment; an additional appointment can be scheduled to finish the grooming session, at no extra charge. I genuinely take into account your cat's needs and personality.
When you come to the appointment
Bring a blanket with your cat's scent on it; I'll place it on the grooming table so your cat has a familiar scent around them.
ALWAYS bring your cat in a carrier; that's his safe space.
If your cat has mats and/or tangles, I may appreciate an extra pair of hands and one person may stay during the grooming session to assist if needed.
If your cat doesn't have mats and/or tangles, or is used to being groomed, you may drop off and pick up your cat when he’s ready. There is a shopping center, Winkelcentrum Winkelhof, near the grooming salon. Of course, one person may also stay during the grooming session.
No children should be present during the grooming session.
